Enjoy the New Spring Weather

After a long winter, do you have spring fever?

After a long, cold winter here in Chicagoland, most people are glad to see the warm weather of spring finally beginning to appear.

This time of year brings some special concerns to be aware of, so read on to learn how you can have a healthy spring season!

Changing Temperatures

Spring days are marked by cool mornings and evenings and warm afternoons, so make sure to dress appropriately. Wear layers that you can peel away or put on again. This is the best way to help your body cope with the varied temperatures. It will also help prevent your coming down with common colds, coughs, sore throats, etc.

Outdoor Allergies

Spring is quite literally in the air over the next few months. From weeds to spores to grass and tree pollens, the warm weather drives airborne allergen levels through the roof. That means your allergy symptoms - the sniffling, sneezing, and itchy eyes - are in overdrive and apt to stay that way for months.

Get Outside and Exercise!

As baseball season starts and college basketball season ends, your favorite players aren't the only ones who should be exercising. The warmer weather is a great time to start exercising outdoors yourself!

Jog, walk, roller blade, golf, or throw a ball around - the sunshine and movement will do your body good!

Get the kids moving too and help them develop and enjoy physical activities outdoors. Make a family affair out of getting exercise, and help everyone stay healthy and happy!

And remember - getting regular exercise is one of the best ways to help prevent most major diseases later in life. Exercising:

  • Strengthens your heart, muscles, lungs, and bones
  • Helps you lose weight or maintain a healthy weight
  • Reduces stress
  • Gives you a whole range of other health benefits.
