With the goal of optimal recovery for every patient, the Skilled Nursing Unit at Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center provides nursing care and rehabilitation services for those recovering from stroke, respiratory illness, orthopedic surgery and other conditions. During a short-term stay, patients receive individualized care that allows a smooth transition from the hospital to their home or other facility.
Our hospital-based Skilled Nursing Unit offers many advantages over freestanding nursing facilities. Patients have immediate, around-the-clock access to physician specialists and medical care for any need that might arrive, including primary care, cardiac care and intensive care.
Nurses in this unit are specially trained in rehabilitation and experienced in caring for those with demanding medical needs. Our case managers, along with a multidisciplinary team of specialists, carefully monitor the progress of patients and closely supervise each patient’s care. Up-to-date information is provided to patients and families at weekly conferences.
In addition to highly trained nurses, our team of professionals includes:
- Dieticians
- Rehabilitation Case Managers
- Occupational Therapists
- Pharmacists
- Physical Therapists
- Social Workers
- Speech Pathologists
- Spiritual Services Staff
Care for patients who require at least three hours of physical, occupational and/or speech therapy per day is provided in our Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit.
