Saint Joseph Hospital is located at 2900 North Lake Shore Drive in Chicago's Lakeview and Lincoln Park community. With free Wi-Fi access throughout the facility, we are both cell phone and personal electronic device friendly. If you're traveling to the hospital by public transportation, a bus stop is located at our front door. For those driving to the hospital, we offer valet parking (front entrance) and self-parking in our covered parking facility, which is located next to the hospital.

Visiting Hours

Our daily visiting hours are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Visiting hours in our special care areas vary - please call us at 773-665-3318 for more information.

Valet parking and convenient patient drop-off is available at the main entrance on Lake Shore Drive.


Easy Access

  • Hospital Main Entrance (east side) - 6 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wheelchairs and valet parking available.

  • Hospital Entrance B (north east) - 6 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.; newspapers, ATM, parking garage pay station.

  • Hospital Entrance C (north west) - open 24 hours.

  • The Manor Professional Office Building (photo at right) Main Entrance (west side) - 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

  • The Manor Professional Building Accessible Entrance D (south east side) - 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Driving Directions

  • From the West
    • Take the Kennedy Expressway (I 90). If coming from the south, exit at Diversey eastbound. If coming from the north, exit at California Avenue and turn left onto Diversey Avenue eastbound.
    • Drive east on Diversey Avenue to Sheridan Road (same as Lakeview) and turn left
    • Turn right at Surf Street
    • Turn left at Commonwealth Avenue and turn right at Oakdale Avenue
    • The parking garage is on Oakdale Avenue

  • From the North
    • Exit Lake Shore Drive at Belmont Avenue and take Inner Lake Shore Drive south to the hospital
    • Turn right onto Oakdale Avenue to the parking garage entrance

  • From the South
    • Exit Lake Shore Drive at Fullerton Avenue and drive west
    • Turn right at Cannon Drive
    • At split, veer right onto Inner Lake Shore Drive
    • Turn left onto Oakdale Avenue to the parking garage entrance

Public Transportation

  • CTA Bus Routes - The #77 Belmont bus stops in front of the hospital. The #151 Sheridan and #156 LaSalle buses stop at the corner of Surf Street and Sheridan Road; the hospital is located one block east of this bus stop.

  • Rapid Transit - The Brown and Purple "el" lines stop at Diversey Avenue. From there, take the #76 Diversey bus east to Sheridan Road; the hospital is located one block east of the bus stop. Visit the Chicago Transit Authority website for complete schedules and route maps.

Valet and Self Parking

Valet parking is available at the Inner Lake Shore Drive entrance (Main Entrance) from 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday - Friday.

Parking for patients and visitors is available on the second, third, fourth and fifth floors of the hospital's parking garage, located on Oakdale Avenue. Pay stations are located in the hospital at Entrance B and in The Manor Professional Building on the first floor. Cash and major credit cards are accepted.

Garage and valet parking rates are discounted for patients. Validation tickets are available at either the Information Desk (Main Entrance) or the Security Office (Entrance C).

Patient Drop-Off

The Main Entrance under the glass canopy on the east side of the building is ideal for patient drop-off. Valet parking is available.

In addition, our concierge will be happy to help you and your loved one with a wheelchair or any other assistance you may require.

Fast Track Outpatient Registration

In a hurry? When minutes count, schedule an appointment in advance by pre-registering for your outpatient test or procedure. Please be sure to bring your doctor's order and insurance information with you.

    Monday - Friday, 7:30 am - 5:30 pm; Saturday, 8 am - 4 pm

  • Pre-register by calling 773-665-3054
    Note: Pre-registration can be completed at the same time you schedule your appointment.

  • Fax us a request to pre-register.
    Print this form and fax it to us at 773-665-3255. After we receive your form, we will call you to complete your registration.

Outpatient Surgery Entrances

Please enter the hospital at "Entrance C." Proceed straight; take the "C Elevator" to the 3rd floor. Exit elevator; proceed to "Check-in."

For outpatient surgery drop-off, handicap access, or wheelchair assistance, please use the Main Entrance, which is under the glass canopy at the circular drive located in the front of the hospital at 2900 North Lake Shore Drive.

Discounted Lodging

For out-of-town patients and visiting family members, we want your stay in Chicago to be as comfortable as possible. There are nearby hotels - all within walking distance* - that offer reduced rates. The participating hotels are located in and around Lincoln Park, within blocks of many restaurants, trendy stores and boutiques, coffee houses, and public transportation.

To find out about discounted lodging, please call one of the hotels listed below and speak directly to in-house reservations. Ask about room availability with the "Saint Joseph" discounted rate.

* Walking time from the hotel to the hospital will vary. Ask the hotel representative for approximate travel time. Saint Joseph Hospital has no affiliation with nor endorses these hotels.

If you plan an overnight stay, on-site parking is available in the Saint Joseph Hospital parking facility (corner of inner Lake Shore Drive and Oakdale Avenue). Ticket validation is available.

While You Wait for Your Loved One

While you wait, we will provide you with a pager. When your loved one's medical visit is completed, we will page you. During your brief stay, feel free to visit the gift shop, enjoy recreational activity, stop by the lake shore café, or check e-mail.

We want your stay with us to be one that is comfortable.

  • Free Wi-Fi Access - RESGuest® Wireless Internet Access: Stay connected by browsing the Internet, checking e-mail and sending or receiving instant messages while you are with us. You may also use your cell phone.

  • The Hallmark Gift Shop - Visit our gift shop to purchase that special gift, flowers, snacks, beverages, or sundry items.

  • The lake shore caféSM (at right) - For a satisfying meal, visit the lake shore café for breakfast, lunch or dinner. For the perfect cup of coffee, enjoy Starbucks. And for something special, we offer treats from House of Fine Chocolate.

  • Wellness Room - Our Wellness Room, which is near the Gift Shop on the first floor of the hospital, is the perfect place for quiet time and reflection. It features a meditation area and a small library with computer kiosks.

  • The Dan Ryan Memorial Chapel - Mass services are offered everyday at noon. Services are televised as well. All feast days and religious holidays are observed. Muslim prayer service occurs every Friday at 1 p.m.

  • Automated Teller (ATM) and stamp machine - For your convenience, a Bank of America ATM is located at Entrance B.

  • Newspaper stand - For the latest news, our newsstand features your favorite Chicago newspaper.

  • Notary Public - While you're with us, a Notary public is available to notarize your important documents. Please ask your caregiver about this service.

  • Recreation - Year-round golf driving range, seasonal mini-golf, playground, tennis courts, and running path with par course are located in Lincoln Park, which is located across the street from the hospital.
