New Women & Family Suites
To better serve your needs, the new Women & Family Suites opened in June, 2012 and features major improvements to the women's health services unit. In the new post-partum unit women can expect a peaceful environment in a private, comfortable room complete with family space.
A family experience
The Family Birthplace at Resurrection Medical Center provides the expert care you need for the birth of your baby. Our 17 labor/delivery/recovery (LDR) rooms offer modern delivery capabilities in a pleasant, comfortable suite that allows the entire birth process to take place in a single room. During the birth process, your bed changes into a delivery table, which means less disruption for you.

Each room includes hardwood floors, an entertainment center, a dining area, a private bathroom with shower, a bassinet and special lighting and medical equipment that are concealed in the decor until needed during delivery.
Two surgical suites are located on the unit if needed.
For babies who require more advanced care, a Special Care Nursery is available and a neonatologist is on site 24-hours-a-day. Within 72 hours after discharge, a staff nurse will make a home visit to provide a complete assessment of both mother and baby. Several options for childbirth preparation classes and classes for siblings are also available.
Care you can trust
When the new addition to your family arrives, our mother-baby nursing provides complete, consistent care for you and your baby. Throughout your stay, one nurse is the primary caregiver for both of you. And our specially trained lactation consultants are able to help you before and after your baby arrives. Prenatal breast-feeding classes are offered throughout the year, and a lactation consultant personally instructs all breast-feeding mothers during their hospital stay.
Should a complication arise, an attending neonatologist is available 24 hours a day. These pediatricians specialize in caring for sick or premature newborns. Their presence provides added peace of mind for new parents. Babies who require intensive care are closely monitored in our state-of-the-art Special Care Nursery.
Returning home
When it's time to go home, we want you to feel confident about how to care for yourself and your baby. Before you depart, you'll have the opportunity to talk with your obstetrician and child's physician and The Family Birthplace staff. They'll help you feel ready to meet your new responsibilities.
The Family Birthplace also provides home visits. Within 72 hours of discharge, a staff nurse will visit your home to provide a head-to-toe assessment of you and your baby. If necessary, our nurse can refer you to a lactation consultant, dietitian or social worker. Your home-visit nurse directly communicates with The Family Birthplace's attending physician before and after your visit.
New Beginnings Prenatal Program
The New Beginnings Prenatal Program is available to women with limited financial resources and consists of obstetric care, education, counseling and emotional support. Prenatal care is offered in the New Beginnings office at Holy Family Medical Center in Des Plaines. Patients may then choose to deliver in The Family Birthplace at Resurrection Medical Center.
Your growing child
Finding a physician to care for your child is another important part of your job as a parent. Resurrection Health Care's pediatricians and family practitioners provide a full range of pediatric primary care, covering everything from immunizations to check-ups to help for the sniffles. And children in need of highly specialized care are treated at Resurrection Medical Center's Pediatric Specialty Center. Here, board-certified pediatric specialists diagnose and treat kids, and provide second opinions when necessary.
