Bernard J. Beazley, successful attorney and philanthropist, received the CARES Award from Saint Joseph Hospital on November 3, 2010. The CARES award honors a community member who exemplifies the spirit of Saint Joseph Hospital's core values: Compassion, Accountability, Respect, Excellence, and Service.
Impressed with the care he had received at Saint Joseph Hospital, Beazley became a charter member of the Saint Joseph Hospital Development Council. His selfless dedication to giving back to the community spans healthcare, education and faith.
"Mr. Beazley's significant support has directly affected the lives of countless individuals and families seeking affordable health care, including the uninsured," said Roberta Luskin-Hawk, MD, CEO, Saint Joseph Hospital. "We wanted to honor and acknowledge the impact that Mr Beazley has made in Chicago."
One example of Beazley's generosity is his devotion to the children and underserved patients at Saint Joseph Hospital's Labouré Outpatient Center. His significant support enabled the clinic to modernize essential ultrasound equipment, renovate its facility and better serve the 23,000 community members who visit the clinic annually to seek a full range of services. Since the installation of the state-of-the-art imaging equipment, Labouré has helped thousands of patients.
Beazley's generosity spans healthcare, education and faith. He has worked closely with Catholic Charities, the Archdiocese of Chicago, Loyola University, Northside Catholic Academy in Edgewater and Chicago Lighthouse for the Blind. Although many who have benefitted directly from his generosity may not know who he is, Beazley has positively affected their quality of life with his unselfish philosophy of giving back to the community.
