Philosophy of Pain Management
Pain is an unique experience that varies within the same person from one episode to the next. Thus, there is an appreciation for each patient’s experience regardless of his or her condition or circumstance.
Because of its subjective nature, the quality of pain can be defined only by the person suffering from it. We believe that everyone has the right to have their pain managed with the goal of maximal relief. Life is such a gift and we all deserve to enjoy it to the fullest.
In order to optimize outcomes, it is imperative that we educate our patients about their condition as well as the interventions and therapies that are planned for them. By doing this, we enlist our patients as active participants in their own plan of care. We have a holistic approach, combining therapies for physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs.
Pain assessment, appropriate intervention and continued assessment of pain intensity are the cornerstones of pain management. It is also vital that treatment efforts are monitored for effectiveness. We will match our efforts to your specific needs.
Early recognition, accurate assessment and timely intervention can lead to increased comfort, fewer complications and significant enhancement of your quality of life. We look forward to being your partner and conquering your pain.
"We strive to treat our patients with the respect and compassion they deserve. Living with pain is debilitating. With individualized pain care, patients can look forward to a healthy, pain-free quality of life. Our goal is to provide our patients with a clinic they can trust to always put their needs first," says Michael H. Rock, M.D., Medical Director (photo at right).
Board-certified in anesthesiology and pain management with more than 15 years of experience at Resurrection Health Care, Dr. Rock specializes in the treatment of complex pain conditions and is well-known throughout the community.
“Pain needs to be managed as a joint effort between the medical team and the patients themselves. No two patients are alike and therefore we will do whatever it takes to solve the individual’s problem. Empathy, compassion and true dedication are at the core of our treatment approach,” says Dr. Rock.

Commitment and Respect
Years of experience treating those who suffer from pain has taught us the most effective ways of managing each specific type of pain – and we continue to learn, both from our colleagues and our patients.
For those in pain, our clinic provides a home where they can find compassion and understanding. Our approach is multi-disciplinary and holistic, always remembering that it is the patient who comes first.
A comprehensive range of treatment options is available, from medication management to minimally invasive surgical procedures. In each situation, we will discuss the rationale for every treatment decision with the patient so that it is a true joint effort.
Many of our patients are not ready to have their pain managed invasively. We completely understand that and are more than willing to explore appropriate alternatives. It is only by combining our resources that we will ensure the greatest levels of success.
