Harborview Recovery Center is pleased to have Dr. Michael Baldinger as our Medical Director. He has served patients and their families suffering from the disease of addiction since 1982.
Dr. Baldinger was medical director for the Grant Hospital Addiction Treatment Program from 1982 until 1994. Grant's program was responsible for training an entire generation of addiction treatment professionals. Dr. Baldinger has served as medical director for both private and public sector addiction treatment programs, including Haymarket Center, one of the largest and most successful publicly funded programs in the Midwest.
Dr. Baldinger is a certified addictionologist with the American Society of Addiction Medicine and is board-certified in Internal Medicine. He holds academic appointments at Rush University Medical Center and the University of Illinois at Chicago. Dr. Baldinger is a graduate of the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, New York University.
Bruce Gober, MD oversaw the development of Harborview Recovery Center and the Psychiatric Outpatient Program. Dr. Gober is a board-certified psychiatrist and board-certified in Addiction Medicine. Dr. Gober served as chairman of the Department of Psychiatry at Lincoln Park Hospital (formerly Grant Hospital), which offered addiction medicine services. He oversaw and taught the clinical training program for addiction counselors there as well. He also was chairman of psychiatry at Michael Reese Hospital.
Dr. Gober is a member of the Behavioral Health Steering Committee of the Illinois Hospital Association. He is a life fellow of the American Psychiatric Association.
Mary Fry, M.D., brings a wealth of expertise to Harborview Recovery Center and Saint Joseph Hospital. Dr. Fry is board certified in Internal Medicine, Geriatric Medicine, and Addiction Medicine. She also serves as an Addiction Medicine Specialist at the Resurrection Behavioral Health Professional Program on the campus of Saint Joseph Hospital in Chicago's Lincoln Park.
Dr. Fry is a 1979 graduate of the University of Michigan's Medical School. She has also received advanced training in Family Therapy, and Psycho-social Interventions, which makes Dr. Fry an ideal attending physician for patients seeking expert and compassionate care.
Dr. Fry has held past or present academic appointments at Rush University Medical Center, University of Illinois Medical Center, and Saint Joseph hospital.
Dr. Marla Kushner, DO, FASAM, FSAHM, provides effective and compassionate care at Harborview Recovery Center in Chicago. With more than twenty years of experience in Adolescent and Addiction Medicine, Dr. Kushner is a well-known expert in her field. She is board certified in Family Medicine and Adolescent Medicine. Dr. Kushner is Certified in Addiction Medicine by the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM), and is also an ASAM Fellow.
Dr. Kushner is a 1985 graduate of the Michigan State University, College of Osteopathic Medicine. She has completed residencies in General Practice at Botsford General Hospital in Michigan; and Adolescent Medicine at Chicago Osteopathic Medical Center and Rush University Medical Center. Dr. Kushner has served as former Medical Director for Parkside Recovery Center and Hazelden Chicago.
Dr. Kushner has advanced training and special interest in adolescent medicine. She holds an academic appointment at Midwestern University, in Downers Grove, Ill. She is also the team physician for Walter Payton College Prep High School Football.
Tony Pacione, LCSW, CSADC, is Harborview Recovery Center's program manager. He joined Harborview in February 2008, bringing a wealth of experience as a clinician and program director in the addiction field since 1982. Tony has successfully integrated recent evidence-based treatments such as cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness-relaxation meditation training, and motivational interviewing, with time-honored 12-step facilitated addiction treatment approaches.
Tony has worked at well-known, innovative programs in the Chicago area such as Humana-Michael Reese HMO, Rush University Medical Center and the Advocate addiction treatment program. He has published articles on addiction treatment for academic and trade association journals.
Tony is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Illinois and a certified supervisor addiction counselor. He holds an Master of Social Work and a Master of Arts in Education degree from Washington University in St. Louis.
