Carl Malin, M. Div., CADC
In his position as director of special assessment services, Carl Malin coordinates the Multidisciplinary Assessment Program (MAP). As a board-certified chaplain, he is available to meet with patients in the professionals program and lectures on spirituality and related issues. Prior to joining Resurrection Behavioral Health, Carl was director of special assessment services at Rush Behavioral Health since 1994.
Professional Experience, Affiliations and Publications
Prior to joining Resurrection Behavioral Health, Carl had been the director of clinical services at Parkside Medical Services, a national substance abuse treatment provider under the umbrella of Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Illinois.
Carl is a board-certified chaplain in the Association of Professional Chaplains and a Certified Alcohol and Drug Addictions counselor through the Illinois Alcohol & Other Drug Abuse Professional Certification Association (IAODAPCA). He has presented workshops on substance abuse and spirituality at chaplain conferences, as well as written several articles for chaplain publications and had meditations published in two Parkside meditation books. As a member of a Lutheran congregation, Carl has conducted classes on addictions and spirituality.
Education and Training
Carl has a B.A. in Sociology/Psychology from Upsala College in East Orange, New Jersey, and a Master of Divinity degree from Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago. He was also an instructor at LSTC for 5 years, co-teaching a course on substance abuse.
He has trained in Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) programs at Rush University Medical Center and at Lutheran General Hospital and was certified as a chaplain in 1974.
He is an ordained pastor with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and serves on the Bishop's Advisory Group for the Metropolitan Chicago Synod of the ELCA.
