Multidisciplinary Assessment Program (MAP)

The MAP is a multidisciplinary-team assessment of complex behavioral problems that have caused concern in the workplace. The assessment usually involves 2 to 3 days.

MAP provides:

  • A multidimensional description and evaluation of the problem behaviors
  • A diagnostic summary based on the team's assessments
  • Recommendation for treatment plan and options available
  • A comprehensive written report issued in a timely manner

Most participating individuals are licensed professionals or executives referred by employers, peer assistance groups or licensing and regulatory agencies. Persons are usually referred to the MAP because of behaviors that raise questions about the person's ability to function with the professional judgment and safety sensitivity required by their positions.

The MAP seeks to identify and clarify causes of the problematic behavior, assess for the existence and severity of medical/psychiatric illness, and makes recommendations for appropriate treatment.

The MAP is based on a standard assessment protocol, but is also menu driven to accommodate the situation. Evaluation components include:

  • Psychiatric evaluation
  • Physical examination
  • Psychological testing
  • Laboratory tests
  • Psychosocial history
  • Chemical-use assessment
  • Collateral interviews
  • Records review

The MAP team includes:

  • Board-certified psychiatrists
  • Clinical psychologists
  • Physicians board-certified in addiction medicine
  • Certified alcohol and drug counselors (masters level)
  • Licensed therapists (LCSW, LCPC)
  • Addiction interaction disorder specialists
