If you or a loved one is facing surgery, know that you’re in highly skilled and caring hands at Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center. Our surgeons, nurses and operating room support staff perform more than 15,000 procedures in almost every medical specialty. And our patient satisfaction scores – which are in the 85th percentile – are evidence of our commitment to excellent outcomes and compassionate care.
Most of our surgeries are performed in our newly renovated outpatient unit, which includes an efficiently designed, centrally located nurses' station/reception desk and specially designated pre- and post-op patient areas. All rooms are equipped with recliner chairs as an alternative to lying in bed, which not only enhances your comfort but helps the recovery process. Attached to our spacious waiting area, the unit features two conference rooms that allow for private surgeon/family discussions after surgery.
Our surgeons have completed more than 200 procedures using the advanced da Vinci® Surgical System. This sophisticated robotic platform enables our team to perform even the most complex and delicate procedures through very small incisions—providing a minimally invasive alternative to open surgery and laparoscopy. For our patients, this means significantly less pain, blood loss and scarring, a shorter recover time and in many cases, better outcomes. At Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center, robotic-assisted surgery is available for hysterectomies, prostatectomies and sacrocolpopexies/uterine prolapses, among other specialties.
Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center's modern surgical facilities rival the features at leading healthcare facilities across the country - and they’re right in your backyard. We treat patients with advanced technology, including image guided surgery specialties in ear, nose and throat (ENT), and neurological conditions for safer, more thorough procedures. Our patients also benefit from urological lithotripsy, a completely non-invasive treatment for kidney stones that dramatically reduces complications, hospital stays, costs and recovery time. Our progressive surgical suites enable surgeons to perform a full range of specialties, including cardiovascular, colorectal, dermatology, neurosurgery, thoracic, oral, plastics and more.
We’re proud to bring the best surgeons to our patients, including noted neurosurgeon Dr. Tamir Hersonskey, ear, nose and throat (ENT) specialist Dr. Ankit Patel, cardiac surgeons Dr. James Tuchek and Dr. Rudolph Altergott, advanced gastroenterologist Dr. Kamran Ayub and Dr. Joe George, a podiatry residency proctor.
At our dedicated Heartburn Center, surgeons Dr. Brian Winkleman and Dr. Peter Mihalakakos specialize in treating chronic GERD (gastroesophageal disease) and are trained in the revolutionary TIF (Transoral Incisionless Fundoplication) procedure using the completely incisionless EsophyX surgical device. This new technique, which accesses the patient’s digestive system through the mouth, permanently corrects the anatomical cause of GERD—while significantly reducing discomfort, shortening recovery and providing long-term results.
Recognized by Money Magazine and Healthgrades, our resident surgeon Dr. J. Michael Tuchek is one of the country’s leading experts in endovascular stent grafting of thoracic and abdominal aortic aneurysms. He was one of the first in the U.S. to perform the Medtronic Talent Thoracic Stent Graft, an innovative technique that allows a synthetic graft to be threaded up an artery in the leg into the aorta to support the site of an aneurysm. It is an ideal procedure for patients who otherwise would only be candidates for open surgery.
