Neuroscience Treatments at Presence Saint Francis

  • Micro Discectomy: Micro Discectomy is a newer form of back surgery using smaller incisions. This surgery is indicated for those patients with intractable disk disease of the lower spine, typically the lumbar spine.
  • Lumbar Fusions: Lumbar fusion surgery uses a bone and plating system designed to stop the motion at a painful vertebral segment, which in turn should decrease pain generated from the joint. The surgery involves adding bone graft to an area of the spine for regrowth between the two vertebral elements to form one long bone. While used mostly for degenerative disc disease, lumbar fusion surgery may also be used to treat other conditions such as a weak or unstable spine, fractures, scoliosis or deformity.
  • Anterior Cervical Discectomy with Fusion (ACDF): This surgery is performed on the upper spine to relieve pressure on one or more nerve roots or on the spinal cord and could be an effective treatment option for degenerative arthritis.
  • Stereotactic Radiosurgery for treating brain tumors: Stereotactic Radiosurgery is an exciting new minimally invasive treatment for brain tumors. This computerized technology enables neurosurgeons to deliver a high dose of radiation to small or difficult to reach lesions in a single session while at the same time protecting the surrounding healthy tissues.
  • Pain Management: Our on-site Pain Management Center effectively helps neurological patients alleviate pain or manage chronic pain. The Center is managed by a team of physicians, nurses, pharmacists and therapists and treatments are administered by an experienced Anesthesiologist. The Center is used as a non-operative alternative as well as treatment of pain post-operatively. Pain medication may be given orally or intravenously. Your physician, with input from you, will choose a route that is most suitable to meet your needs for pain management.
  • Rehabilitation: The Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department at Presence Saint Francis Hospital is dedicated to providing the highest quality of care to return patients to their fullest possible function. Comprehensive treatments are available specifically for neurologically impaired patients using a wide range of therapies to help rebuild strength and overcome the challenges of back problems and other neurological disorders.
