Program Objectives

Active research is coordinated by a dedicated faculty director who provides close assistance in all projects. At Saint Joseph Hospital there is generally 25 to 35 ongoing projects and 4 to 6 national presentations by our residents annually. The vast majority of our graduates complete fellowships of their choice. The majority continue in academic or teaching institutions.

In summary, the General Surgery Residency Program gives residents a detailed knowledge of issues encountered by general surgeons and provides a broad understanding of the subspecialties of surgical practice. Residents who complete the program are well qualified and fully prepared for successful careers in surgery.
