The Transitional Year Residency Program at Saint Francis hospital offers a one-year program of broad clinical experience for candidates who require a year of general clinical experience before entering a specialty residency or a military service obligation, or who are undecided about a specialty.

The goal of the residency is to provide a well-rounded, structured program with opportunities for experience in:

  • Internal medicine
  • Surgery
  • Emergency medicine
  • Obstetrics and gynecology
  • Pediatrics
  • Radiology
  • Pathology
  • Anesthesiology
  • Orthopedic surgery
  • Other specialties

The program's graduates typically continue in advanced training in:

  • Anesthesiology
  • Radiology
  • Radiation oncology
  • Physical medicine and rehabilitation
  • Ophthalmology
  • Dermatology
  • Neurology

Others have continued in occupational medicine or have entered military service as general medical officers.
