Learning and Research
Daily Noon conferences and Friday morning lectures are given by attendings. Interdisciplinary Tumor Boards are attended weekly and Trauma Conferences are attended monthly. Residents also attend monthly Chicago Radiological Society Meetings where they routinely win monthly as well as annual awards during the resident review sessions. Additionally, residents are fully funded to attend the month long Armed Forces Institute of pathology course during their third year.
Residents are given time and resources to pursue research opportunities. Every resident is required to complete one research project prior to graduation.
Rotations are one month in length. Call is covered via a night-float system in one-week blocks. Residents are evaluated monthly at the end of each rotation by their attendings. The call room is located in the Radiology Department and is equipped with a queen bed, desk, PACS station, television and phone.
The Radiology Residency maintains a library (in the department) containing journals, textbooks, and DVDs as well as syllabi from the ACR and other board preparation references. We have on line subscriptions to the ACR teaching file and the ACR "All Access Pass" as well as STATDX. The medical library at Saint Francis Hospital provides electronic texts through Stafref, AccessMedicine, and Ovid Books covering a range of disciplines. Over 1,000 full-text journals can be accessed through the hospital Intranet with search engines provided by Ebscohost, Ovid and PubMed for your literature search needs both remotely and in-house. UpToDate, DynaMed and MD database are also available. Any resource not on-site in the library's print or electronic collections is available through a document delivery service.
