Welcome to the Internal Medicine Residency at Saint Francis Hospital
It is my pleasure to introduce you to the Internal Medicine Residency at Saint Francis Hospital!
For more than 100 years, Saint Francis Hospital has been providing high-quality, compassionate, family-centered care to the residents of Evanston, north Chicago and its surrounding communities. For more than 50 of those years, Saint Francis has been training internal medicine residents! The residency has an extensive track record of academic excellence. Our 10-year American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) certifying exam pass rate is more than 99%, and our current house staff (counting all three years) has an average of 99% on the American College of Physicians In-Training Examination. The matched categorical incoming intern class for the 2011-2012 academic year had licensure exam scores (USMLE Parts I & II) that averaged 248 and 255 respectively.
Saint Francis Hospital is a 375-bed, Level I Trauma Center that specializes in emergency and cardiac care. We are the only accredited Chest Pain Center on Chicago's North Shore, a Nursing Magnet Hospital, a Joint Commission Accredited Primary Stroke Center, and home to a state of the art wound care center complete with 2 hyperbaric chambers.
We are an affiliate of the University of Illinois at Chicago and are a major teaching site for medical students and physician assistant students from throughout the area, giving residents an excellent opportunity to develop their teaching and leadership skills. Our residents have ample resources for scholarly activity, and regularly present their works through abstracts, posters and presentations at national and regional ACP and SGIM meetings. Most importantly, Saint Francis Hospital offers residents a collegial, friendly atmosphere where the attending and administrative staffs are dedicated to teaching and making your three years here a rewarding one.
I look forward to meeting you and discussing further the merits of our program and how we can fit into your future plans.
Harvey J. Friedman, M.D.
