Welcome from the Director
Welcome to Resurrection Health Care: MWU/OPTI Consortium Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program designed to provide the graduated learning environment in which the resident will master basic science, medical management, general surgical skills and interpersonal skills of a highly qualified osteopathic obstetrician and gynecologist. The longest standing osteopathic Ob/Gyne program was established over 70 years ago. The program meets all of the standards and requirements for Residency Training in Gynecology of the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) and the American College of Osteopathic Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOOG). These standards are designed to facilitate the training of osteopathic residents in obstetrics and gynecology, and to prepare them for certification in obstetrics and gynecologic surgery.
We are a four-year AOA accredited program based at Presence Resurrection Medical Center in Chicago. The program is approved for 17 positions in Obstetrics and Gynecology. This program is open to individuals who have graduated from an accredited school of Osteopathic Medicine. Individuals can apply after completing a one-year AOA approved rotating Internship, or may apply directly for an Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency. Individuals in an AOA approved rotating Internship program may apply for partial credit of their Internship towards their first year of Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency.
As a consortium program that rotates through several hospitals, we have always flourished through our supporting Institutions. Now with our recent sponsorship change, we are proud to have Presence Resurrection Medical Center as our base hospital with a consortium of other training sites to balance a university-based program in a community hospital setting.
Our mission is to train superb physicians who are prepared for the clinical, academic and administrative challenges involved in being an osteopathic Obstetrician and Gynecologist in the 21st Century. The philosophy of the program is that obstetrics and gynecology is best learned from selected rotations in a variety of environments pertinent to obstetrical and gynecological care.
The program is conducted in multiple OPTI affiliated institutions in order to offer a comprehensive experience within the diverse patient populations in the Chicago area. Each training site has a site director and coordinator who evaluates the resident's performance at the local site and presents this to the Program Director via direct communication and the EValue system. Each site and individual resident is monitored closely by the Program Director who reports to the DME and the Executive Director of Medical Education for Presence Health at the primary institution. Because obstetrics and gynecology is a changing field, modifications of the program will be made as needed to remain current and innovative.
We meet our mission by providing dedicated, residency trained and board certified teaching attending physicians with diverse interests in all areas of the specialty and sub-specialty areas. Each physician member dedicates time for journal clubs, lectures, and advisory on resident research. This consortium of hospitals and clinical experience provides the necessary patient population, learning opportunities and guidance necessary to assist the resident in becoming a skilled obstetrician/gynecologist to attain board certification.
The residents encounter a unique and diverse patient population through the different hospitals in which they rotate. Our combined consortium of hospitals provides a diverse patient population. This provides ample opportunity for procedures and clinical patient encounters for residents at all levels of training. Our residents become proficient in caring for the obstetrical and gynecological patient. They are exposed to MIGS robotics surgery, ultrasound and ambulatory settings with "office based" practice.
Our residents play an active role in the residency, including teaching students, lecture presentations and research production. Rotations and teaching attendings are assessed quarterly during quality assurance and resident feedback is critical. We are committed to providing the residents with all of the necessary resources to lead healthy and successful professional lives.
We take pride in caring for the community regardless of race, religion, or insurance status. The residents and faculty feel the best place to learn is with direct patient contact. This is where clinical development takes place; where we build camaraderie and develop long lasting peer relationships. It is where we are intellectually and physically challenged and have patient encounters that impact us for the rest of our lives.
The cornerstone of success for Obstetrics and Gynecology training is obtaining the knowledge, comfort, and expertise to practice in this field. We wish you the best in your career. Thank you for your interest in our program.
