Trauma Rotation at Stroger Cook County Hospital

The Resurrection EM-2 resident work with other EM residents at Cook County as part of a highly-structured trauma team of this well-known Chicago downtown hospital.

Residents rotate in the role of trauma "leader" in during trauma resuscitations and become versed in traumatic airway management and the trauma protocols for blunt and penetrating trauma based on anatomical location.

There are also opportunities for intubation, chest tubes, vascular procedures and thoracotomy. Residents are also responsible for the continuing care of trauma patients in the 12-bed Trauma ICU. Residents are on-call every third night during the rotation.
