Ultrasound and EMS Rotation at Resurrection Medical Center

Interns have 14 dedicated ultrasound shifts with either Dr. Rifenburg, the Ultrasound Fellowship director, or the ultrasound fellow. Interns are taught to perform FAST exams, abdominal ultrasounds (gallbladder, aorta, kidneys), echocardiography, obstetrical and gynecological ultrasounds, venous dopplers, ocular, testicular, and anything else you can put a ultrasound probe on. Interns are also involved in weekly tape reviews and short didactic lessons.

The EMS portion of the month includes ambulance ride-alongs, telemetry usage, and paramedic education. Residents consistently perform over 100 scans during the rotation.
