Metabolic Screening - Are You at Risk for Metabolic Syndrome?
Metabolic Syndrome is a cluster of risk factors that put one at much greater risk for heart disease, diabetes and stroke. The metabolic screening is a 30-minute session with an RN that will determine if the risk factors are present and will include education, hand-outs and a discussion of next steps. The session includes finger-stick blood glucose & cholesterol, blood pressure, waist circumference, and BMI/Fat analysis. Fasting is required for 12 hours prior to your appointment. Please do not eat or drink anything except water during this time period. Stay hydrated by drinking lots of water during your fast. It is important! Please take your medications if you can safely do so without food. Please wear short sleeves or layers that are easily removed so the arm can be uncovered for the blood pressure check. Please do not use hand lotion the morning of the screening (it can interfere with the cholesterol results).
Screenings are generally scheduled the first and third Wednesdays of each month, and one person can be seen each half hour. Screenings are for adults only, 18 years +; eligibility once per year. Results will be available at the screening.
Screenings are performed in English. If a Spanish interpreter is required, please advise at time of registration. To register and for more information contact the InfoLine at 877.737.4636. Screenings are performed at Presence Health Institute (formerly Provena Health Institute) 1975 Melissa Lane, Second Floor Aurora, IL 60506
