Dr. Olsen Receives 2014 Physician HOPE Award at Presence Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center
Chicago, Ill. – April 23, 2014 – Michael Olsen, MD, emergency medicine physician, is the recipient of this year’s physician HOPE Award at Presence Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center (PSMEMC).
Dr. Olsen, who joined the medical staff in 2009 and works in the Emergency Department, was recognized for exemplifying the new core values of the ministry: Honesty, Oneness, People and Excellence (HOPE). A Lakeview resident, Dr. Olsen was presented the award at a special reception on April 9 at the medical center.
“On a personal level, it is nice to be acknowledged with this award,” said Dr. Olsen. “It’s also a nice way for the ER to get recognized throughout the medical center.” He explained that this award calls attention to the hard work and dedication of the entire ER team.
PSMEMC physicians and employees at the Saint Mary Hospital and Saint Elizabeth Hospital Campuses had an opportunity to nominate a doctor for the award. The Physician Satisfaction Committee selected the recipient.
“As you can imagine, we received numerous nominations touting the way Dr. Olsen lives and breathes our core values of Honesty, Oneness, People and Excellence,” said Martin Judd, regional CEO, PSMEMC, at the presentation.
Judd explained what different nominators said about how Dr. Olsen demonstrates the values:
- Honesty: “His interaction with patients and families is well-noted and respected by the nursing staff.”
- Oneness: “I cannot emphasize enough about all his work to ensure we were all aligned with patient safety standards in time for The Joint Commission survey.”
- People: “He is well known throughout the hospital for his compassion and energy. He is always courteous and helpful to others. He is highly respected by his peers and appreciated by his colleagues and direct reports because of his humble nature. He also is seen as a very positive person and exhibits a ‘win-win’ philosophy.”
- Excellence: “He is efficient and thorough and an excellent problem-solver.”
What is Dr. Olsen’s work philosophy?
“Living by the Golden Rule applies to life,” he said. “Treat others as you would want to be treated.”
