Holy Family Medical Center to Award Honorable Dan Kotowski

Special Celebration to Present Award for Exceptional Community Service

Des Plaines, Ill (April 17, 2014) – Presence Holy Family Medical Center will present Honorable Dan Kotowski, Illinois State Senator, 28th District, with the Inspire Award for exceptional community service on Tuesday, April 22, 2014, 5-7 p.m. at the hospital. Senator Kotowski has dedicated his entire adult life to public service, with special interests in advocating for reduced gun violence and improved epilepsy education. He has also helped shape the debate on healthcare, capping property tax assessments, veteran affairs and public safety.

The Inspire Award is presented annually to a community organization or leader who exemplifies the values that inspire the hospital’s community outreach. It also recognizes inspirational leadership that advances the well-being of the community.

“Dan takes full advantage of his elected position, serving on five committees in the Illinois General Assembly, and advocating for the causes he truly believes in,” said John Baird, regional president and CEO for Presence Health Care. “He does everything he can to enrich the lives of our communities, supporting important and life-saving issues, and we are proud to recognize his service.”

Senator Kotowski, who has epilepsy himself, serves on the board of an advocacy group to fight epilepsy in children, and the Greater Chicago Epilepsy Foundation, which honored him with the Epilepsy Hero Award for his many years of support. Prior to his election, he served as the vice president of UCAN, a social service agency, and was the head of the Illinois Council Against Handgun Violence.

Business leaders, school administrators, community leaders, physicians, past award winners and elected officials, including Des Plaines Mayor Matthew Bogusz and Rep. Martin Moylan plan to attend the event.

Media are welcome to attend; please contact Pat Favia at 847-813-3301 for additional information.
