FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

U.S. News and World Report Names the Extended Care Unit at
Presence Our Lady of the Resurrection Medical Center
Among the Best Nursing Homes, 2014

Chicago, Ill (April 8, 2014) — U.S. News and World Report named the Extended Care Unit at Presence Our Lady of the Resurrection Medical Center, 5645 West Addison Street, Chicago, as one of ‘America’s Best Nursing Homes, 2014.’ The magazine reviews data about nearly every nursing facility in the United States, updating the information every quarter and using it to rate and rank the nursing homes.

The hospital’s Extended Care Unit, a sub-acute rehabilitation unit, is among the top of the list of Illinois skilled nursing facilities with a rating of five stars for overall performance in health inspections, nurse staffing, and quality of medical care. The rating was issued by the federal government's Nursing Home Compare consumer web site that is operated by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. About 22 percent of all nursing homes in Illinois earned an overall five-star rating.

“We are honored to be nationally recognized by a leading publication,” said John Baird, president and CEO, Presence Our Lady of the Resurrection Medical Center. “This independent top rating lets patients know they have access to excellent care at one of the best sub-acute rehabilitation units in Chicago that is close to home.”

The hospital’s Extended Care Unit is a Medicare-certified skilled nursing unit that provides nursing care and rehabilitation services for patients recovering from a stroke, orthopedic surgery, respiratory illness, and other conditions. The area serves as a transitional unit where short-term stays allow patients to transition more smoothly from an acute hospital setting to their homes. Individually-tailored programs address the needs of each patient and a multidisciplinary team works with each patient and family in the healing process.

“We have a wonderful team of doctors, nurses and health care staff who are highly skilled, compassionate and dedicated to their patients’ care.  This five-star rating by U.S. News and World Report is a testament to their providing the highest quality of care possible,” said Ziauddin Ahmed, M.D., medical director, Extended Care Unit, Presence Our Lady of the Resurrection Medical Center.

Also making the national list for best nursing homes are the following Presence Life Connections facilities in the Northwest Chicago area: Presence Nazarethville, Des Plaines; Presence Resurrection Life Center, Chicago; Presence Resurrection Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Park Ridge; and Presence Saint Andrew Life Center, Niles.
