Presence Saint Francis Hospital CEO to retire

Evanston, Illinois (September 5, 2013) – After 36 years of innovative leadership in health care administration and the insurance industry with the past seven years as President and CEO of Presence Saint Francis Hospital, Jeff Murphy has announced his decision to retire effective September 30, 2013. A transition and succession process is under development.

Jeff’s strategic leadership at Presence Saint Francis Hospital has enabled the hospital to achieve transformational change and growth. Under his guidance, Presence Saint Francis became the first hospital within Presence Health to achieve Magnet® status for nursing excellence, the first to launch a comprehensive electronic medical record system, and the first to become a Certified Chest Pain Center, a Certified Primary Stroke Center and to receive the national Beacon Award for outstanding ICU care. During his tenure, Presence Saint Francis has consistently ranked among the Best Hospitals in the Chicago metro area in U.S. News & World Report’s annual survey. Jeff’s achievements at Presence Health also include recruiting the North Shore Physicians Group, the largest physician group acquisition in the system’s history and completing numerous renovations and remodeling projects on the Presence Saint Francis Hospital campus, most recently the transition to all private rooms. He has served on numerous boards and organizations in Evanston and will be remembered for his contributions and insights within Presence Health on key system operations committees.

“Under Jeff Murphy’s strong and visionary leadership, Presence Saint Francis Hospital has developed into a premier community hospital that is one of the key assets in our health system,” said Sandra Bruce, Presence Health President and Chief Executive Officer. “Jeff has attracted new physicians while adding new services to keep up with advances in medicine and technology. I value his contributions and he will truly be missed.”

In retirement, Jeff plans to spend more time pursuing his many outside interests, splitting his time between his homes in Hinsdale, Illinois and Scottsdale, Arizona.
