Evanston, Illinois (July 30, 2013) – Presence Saint Francis Hospital is hosting members of the Evanston Fire Department to conduct simulation training this week. Media are invited to attend the training on Thursday afternoon, August 1 from 1 to 3 p.m.
Training will take place indoors and outdoors with the use of equipment from the hospital’s simulation lab, which was specially designed to enable medical professionals to practice patient care techniques on life-like manikins in a controlled environment. The center is normally utilized to train physicians, nurses and other hospital staff, who practice medical procedures on the simulation lab’s manikins, which have life-like organs and arteries and which produce typical vital sign responses following the trainee’s diagnostic and treatment choices. As medical procedures become more numerous and more complex, this is a special opportunity for City of Evanston life safety personnel to participate in practicing life-saving techniques to improve patient care and refine their teamwork and communication skills.
Forty years ago, Presence Saint Francis Hospital was one of the first Illinois hospitals to be named a resource hospital in the Illinois EMS system. As the resource hospital for Region X, Presence Saint Francis is responsible for training paramedics and providing medical oversight for more than 800 life safety personnel from seven surrounding communities and two private ambulance companies.
