Presence Our Lady of the Resurrection Medical Center Earns an ‘A’ Top Grade in Patient Safety
Chicago (May 10, 2013) — Presence Our Lady of the Resurrection Medical Center rates an ‘A’ grade in patient safety according to the Spring 2013 Hospital Safety Score, created and administered by The Leapfrog Group, a national advocate in hospital transparency and patient safety. The medical center was one of only 729 U.S. hospitals and 51 Illinois hospitals to receive an ‘A’ grade on how well it protects patients from avoidable mishaps. This is the second consecutive ‘A’ grade in patient safety for the hospital.
Leapfrog evaluated more than 2,500 hospitals based on 26 national performance measures of safety, quality, and resource utilization and then issued hospitals letter grades of A, B, C, D or F. The single grade represents a hospital’s overall success in keeping patients safe from infections, injuries, and medical and medication errors. Assessment data are publicly available at the national level, including data reported through the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ Hospital Compare and the Leapfrog Survey.
“While we are pleased to offer our patients the latest technology and best specialty care available, we are focused on keeping our patients safe,” said John Baird, President and Chief Executive Officer, Presence Our Lady of the Resurrection Medical Center. “This ‘A’ rating is indicative of our hospital team’s commitment to providing a safe environment of care for our patients.”
The Hospital Safety Score provides data and research to help the public make informed decisions about patient safety, and the goal is to reduce the more than 180,000 yearly deaths from hospital errors and injuries by publicly recognizing safety and exposing harm.
