American Cancer Society Now Scheduling Appointments for Cancer Prevention Study Enrollment to Take Place at Presence Saint Francis Hospital on Thursday, June 20
Evanston, Illinois (Appril 19, 2013 ) – Presence Saint Franncis Hospital will serve as an enrollment site for the American Cancer Society’s new research study, CPS-3, on Thursday, June 20. Appointments will be scheduled in advance only.
CPS-3 is short for Cancer Prevention Study--3, as this is the third major cancer prevention study that the American Cancer Society (ACS) has offered. By joining CPS-3, participants can help researchers better understand how lifestyle, genetics and the environment affect cancer and how to better prevent the disease. The ACS's goal is to enroll 300,0000 people in this study by yearend, with 1,000 enrollees from Chicago's northern suburbs.
The study is open to anyone who is age 30 to 65, who has never been diagnosed with cancer and who is willing to make a long-term commitment to the study, which involves completing periodic follow-up surveys at home for the next 20-30 years.
Enrollment involves two steps. Potential participants can visit the study’s web site and schedule an enrollment time. Upon arrival at their appointment, participants will complete a brief survey, have their waist measurement taken and will have a small blood sample taken by a certified, trained phlebotomist . The appointment will take 20-30 minutes.
All study information is kept confidential and is not shared with the hospital, employers or physicians.
Those interested in more information about the study can contact Jennifer Briggs at the American Cancer Society at 847 317-0209.
