FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center to Host “Day of Dance for Your Health”
Chicago, Ill. – April 4, 2013 – It's almost time for men, women and children of all ages and sizes to “get their dance on” for the Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center's Day of Dance for Your Health event on April 20 from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. The event will take place at the Ukrainian Cultural Center, 2247 W. Chicago Ave., Chicago.
This year's event combines the fun of dancing to different kinds of music, such as ballroom dancing, rock 'n roll, jazz, salsa, swing, and hip-hop, with health screenings and consumer education on heart disease and other important health topics. Several of the hospital's physicians will attend the event to offer services and consult with guests.
Coronary heart disease, which causes heart attack, is the single leading cause of death for American men and women. Day of Dance gives the medical center's health care team an opportunity to extend their services beyond the hospital setting to educate consumers about a variety of cardiovascular conditions, such as atrial fibrillation, stroke and more.
In addition, the annual event gives consumers an opportunity to focus on their cardiovascular health. Dancing can burn as many calories as swimming, walking, or riding a bike (as many as 200-400 calories per hour). Many health benefits may result from dance if done regularly as a form of exercise. Benefits include weight maintenance or weight loss, blood pressure and cholesterol management (lowering), increased energy, decreased sadness and depression, increased coordination and muscle strength and an overall sense of well-being.
