Saints Mary and Elizabeth Emergency Department Receives 4-Star Patient Perception Award

Chicago, Ill. – August 22, 2012 – For the third consecutive year, the Emergency Department at Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical (SMEMC) earned the Professional Research Consultants' (PRC) 4-star Patient Perception Award.

The 2012 Excellence in Healthcare Award means patients rated their satisfaction as “excellent” when visiting SMEMC. The award is given annually to facilities that score in the top 25 percent of the clients that PRC ranks nationally.

A rating of “excellent” means SMEMC staff consistently received scores between the 75th and 89th percentile in the areas of attentiveness, communications, quality and utilization. PRC patient satisfaction ratings are from 2011.

“We are honored to win this award three years in a row,” said Patrick Kelly, RN, BSN, nurse manager of emergency services, SMEMC. “Patients can expect outstanding emergency care from an experienced staff. I am proud of our team of board-certified emergency physicians, specially trained nurses, techs, greeters and ancillary personnel. They focus on delivering high quality, prompt and compassionate care to our patients.”

PRC is a national healthcare marketing research firm that conducts follow-up voluntary phone surveys of patients after their visits to the hospital. PRC has partnered with more than 2,000 healthcare organizations in their quest for excellence. Every year, PRC speaks personally with more than 1 million households and recent hospital patients, as well as hundreds of thousands of physicians, hospital employees and community members, according to the PRC website.
