Hope for Those Who Suffer with Stubborn Sores and Infections

DES PLAINES, IL-(August 6, 2012)-An open sore that won’t heal, an infection after surgery, a burn from radiation therapy-all of these are serious health risks that can be treated effectively. The Wound Healing Center at Holy Family Medical Center is presenting a free wound screening, brief lecture, and open house, Wednesday, August 22, 6:30 – 8 p.m., 150 N. River Road. To register for the free event call, Call (877) RES-Info (877)-737-4636.

“There are so many people out there with stubborn wounds or sores that just won’t heal,” said Dr. Nancy Awadallah, Medical Director of the Wound Healing Center. “We want them to know there is help for them. We are so proud of the Wound Healing Center’s high quality results. We have a 98.5% heal rate, and 97% patient satisfaction rate.”

How do you know if you have a problem wound? A good rule of thumb is any wound/sore that has not healed within 30 days. Some common wounds are diabetic foot ulcers, injuries from radiation treatment, bed sores, gangrene, osteomyelitis (bone infection), and any post-operative infections.

“We are very proud of the Wound Center’s record,” said Kim Goin, Program Director. “We have healed 98% of all the wounds we have treated, our average healing time is about 7 weeks, and our patient satisfaction is at 97%.”

Wound patients have many options for treatment including hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBO). HBO is a treatment in which patients rest in a specialized treatment chamber, breathing 100% oxygen at greater than normal pressures. HBO increases the amount of oxygen that is circulated to body tissues, stimulating growth of new tissue.

Refreshments and light appetizers will be served.
