New Medical Affairs VP Joins Staff at Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center

Chicago, Ill. – June 29, 2012 – Balvindar S. Sareen, M.D., M.B.A., FACMQ, FACHE, recently joined the senior leadership team at Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center (SMEMC) as the new vice president of medical affairs.

In this newly created position, Dr. Sareen (photo at right) serves as liaison between the hospital and medical staff, and oversees quality and clinical utilization. He also is chief medical informatics officer and will direct the hospitalist program. Dr. Sareen has more than six years of senior leadership experience in quality and clinical utilization.

“Dr. Sareen has outstanding experience and capabilities to champion quality and patient safety efforts throughout the medical center so that we can provide excellent care to patients and their families,” said Margaret McDermott, executive vice president and CEO, SMEMC.

The vice president of medical affairs earned his medical degree from the University of Delhi's Maulana Azad Medical College and completed his residency in internal medicine at North Shore University Hospital in New York. He received a master's of business administration from New York University's Stern School of Business. He holds multiple board certifications, including internal medicine, geriatrics, managed care medicine, medical quality and healthcare quality management. Dr. Sareen recently became a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE).

Previously, Dr. Sareen was system medical director of inpatient services at Mercy Health System in Janesville, Wis. In that position, he led the planning and implementation of the electronic health record, served as chairperson of utilization management and director of the hospitalist program.
