Training for an Endurance Event? Saint Joseph Hospital Presents Free Program to Prepare Athletes
Information on nutrition, injury prevention and treatment
Chicago, Ill. – June 6, 2012 -- Learn more about what foods to eat during training, and how to prevent and treat injuries at a free program, Nutrition, Prevention, Treatment for Runners and Endurance Athletes from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on June 20 at Saint Joseph Hospital, Boiken Conference Center, 2900 N. Lake Shore Drive, Chicago.
For endurance athletes who are devoted to improving their performance, good nutrition can make the difference between setting a personal record and having a disastrous race.
Kimberly Mahoney, M.S., R.D., L.D.N., Saint Joseph Hospital, will talk about nutrition for the endurance athlete during training, race day and for recovery. Mahoney, a registered dietitian with the Chicago Institute of Advanced Bariatrics at Saint Joseph Hospital, is training for Ironman Wisconsin in September and has previously run 11 marathons.
Saint Joseph Hospital physician Balu Natarajan, M.D., board-certified in sports medicine and internal medicine, will discuss injury prevention and treatment. Dr. Natarajan serves on the Chicago Marathon medical team and helps patients prepare for endurance events. He also has served as team physician for the Chicago Storm indoor soccer team and traveled to Brazil with the U.S. World Cup Beach Soccer Team.
