Saint Joseph Hospital Launches New Electronic Health Record – Most Advanced in the Nation
Installation Goes Live on May 6
Chicago, Ill. – May 8, 2012 – On May 6, Saint Joseph Hospital launched an electronic health record (EHR) – achieving another milestone in its 144-year history. The installation of this innovative technology will transform the way the hospital delivers care and enhances the patient experience.
The hospitalwide project included six months of work – installing hardware and software systems, training and preparation by nearly 1,500 hospital employees and physicians. At 2 a.m. on May 6, the Emergency Department was the first department to go live. By 7 a.m., the hospital completed installation in all other departments.
“The successful launch of our electronic health record is an historic achievement for Saint Joseph Hospital – another example of our longstanding commitment to deliver outstanding patient- and family-centered care,” said Roberta Luskin-Hawk, M.D., executive vice president and CEO, Saint Joseph Hospital. “Our patients, doctors and staff now have access to the most advanced electronic health record system in the nation, which will transform the way we provide care.”
With the new EHR system, the patient’s medical information is now consolidated into one single, secure and private medical record. Caregivers now have access to a patient’s medical record with a few clicks of the mouse. This new technology will enhance patient care, as well as provide convenient access to personal medical information.
Patients can expect:
- faster service
- easier appointment scheduling
- exceptional clinical quality
- enhanced accuracy and safety, and less time spent on registration
The EHR will be used for patient scheduling and registration, clinical documentation, medication administration, patient billing and messaging to patients – all in a paperless environment.
For example, the EHR will provide seamless, round-the-clock access to clinical data through multiple access points. If a patient visits the doctor’s office at Saint Joseph Hospital, the Emergency Department or Express Care at the Jewel Osco in Lakeview, the clinician will conveniently have access to the patient’s medical information. The patient’s medical history – including diagnostic tests, prescribed medications, immunizations, office visits, physician notes and other key information – is stored in an electronic format.
“This new technology will enhance care, quality, safety and convenience so patients and their families have the best possible experience here – that’s been our mission for 144 years,” Dr. Luskin-Hawk said.
Saint Joseph Hospital became the second hospital in the healthcare system to officially launch the new EHR. To date, Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston has gone live and many ambulatory facilities – including Saint Joseph Hospital’s Seton Family Health Center and the Labouré Clinic in Chicago.
