Resurrection Medical Center Sponsors American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk June 2

Chicago, IL (April 2, 2012) Take a stand against breast cancer at the American Cancer Society’s Northwest Chicago Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk at 8 a.m. on Saturday June 2 at Edison Park Elementary School, 6220 N. Olcott Ave., Chicago.

Registration for the noncompetitive one-mile walk or five-kilometer walk/run is at 8 a.m. The activity begins at 9 a.m. at the school on Olcott Avenue just blocks south of Devon Avenue.

Donations for the American Cancer Society will be collected at the walk, or can be made online at

It is the first year that Resurrection Medical Center is joining with other community leaders, schools and businesses to bring the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk to Chicago’s northwest side. The event is also sponsored by Associated Bank.

“We’re excited to partner with the American Cancer Society, and to bring this important event close to home,” said Mariana Burgos, supervisor of Health Management and the ClubRes Fitness Center at Resurrection Medical Center. “It will be an opportunity for many of us to share our personal stories about breast cancer. It’s also a great opportunity to raise awareness, and to raise money to fight this devastating disease, as well as a fun event for the whole family.”

Since 1993, about 8 million walkers have raised more than $400 million through the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides. Last year, 25,000 walkers in Illinois raised more than $2.3 million.

The American Cancer Society uses the money raised from Making Strides to fund research, advocate for all women to have access to mammograms and treatment, and to provide free programs and services for cancer patients and their families.
