Resurrection Medical Center Mourns the Death of Dr. Ralph Otto
CHICAGO—Resurrection Medical Center Cardiothoracic Surgeon Ralph E. Otto, M.D., was killed in a small plane collision this past weekend in Wyoming. Sister Donna Marie Wolowicki, C.R. CEO, has issued the following statement:
"For nearly 30 years, we have been blessed and honored to have Dr. Ralph E. Otto on staff at Resurrection Medical Center. His amazing talent as a surgeon led him to become Medical Director of our Open Heart Program in 1992 which he was very instrumental in establishing. Three years later, he was appointed Chairman of the section of cardiovascular and thoracic surgery.
Dr. Otto was extremely supportive of our medical education and nursing programs sharing his vast knowledge of cardiac and thoracic surgery with those who wanted to learn. His patients were impressed with his bedside manner and the time he would spend with them explaining in simple terms the most complicated of procedures.
Resurrection Medical Center mourns the death of Dr. Otto. Not only was he a skilled physician and surgeon who saved many lives, but he was also a compassionate physician who had a profound impact on the patients he served and on the staff with whom he worked.
Our prayers are with the Otto family during this very difficult time. May they be comforted in knowing how much Dr. Otto meant to Resurrection Medical Center staff and all the patients he cared for. He will be deeply missed."
